Transport woes of the citizens of Thane promise to ease in the near future with the MMRDA recently giving its green signal to a series of infrastructure projects in and around Thane.The government’s focus on pushing infrastructure projects in Thane is to cater to the rapid growth, which has overburdened the existing infrastructure.

The government of Maharashtra has decided to fast track Rs 1.50 lakh crore infrastructure projects in Mumbai and Thane,within the set time period and committed that it would accord highest priority to the bhoomiputras (sons of soil) in terms of extending the compensation package and rehabilitation.Of these Rs 50,000 crore have been earmarked for the development of infrastructure of Thane district alone.

Our Chief Minister DevenderFadnavis also performed the bhoomipujan for the Airoli–Katai Naka elevated road and tunnel connecting Thane-Belapur Road and National Highway (NH-4). The construction of this 3.5 km including a 1.70 km tunnel.stretch will be completed in 40 months and is expected to estimate Rs.385 Crores.This project is expected to connect Navi Mumbai directly to Kalyan, cutting the distance by seven kilometres and is likely to cut travel time by almost half an hour.

He also inaugurated the Ghansoli-Talavli flyover, and the underpass at Mahape.He also commissioned the flyover along Savita Chemicals.The two flyovers and underpass had been developed by the MMRDA at the behest of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) in an effort to ease traffic congestion. The flyovers have been constructed on the 1.4 kilometreGhansoli Naka-Talavali Naka stretch and 575-metre Mahape-Savita Chemicals junctions. The vehicular underpass at Mahape junction is 500 metres.The opening of the flyovers is expected to put an end to the frequent traffic snarls witnessed on the six-lane, 15-kilometre Thane-Belapur road.The collective budget for the three projects is Rs155 crore.

The biggest metro projects are in Thane and would be completed within the next two to three years. The work on Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, Coastal Road, Water Transport, Ro-Ro services are in various phases of progress. All these will surely give a boost to the real estate market in Thane.

Thane is further gearing up for its mega infrastructure deals. Two flyovers, KalyanPhata and SilPhata are coming up in Thane. Planned by the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) the project will be funded by the MMRDA. MMRDA is going to fund three flyovers at AlmeraChowk, Meenatai Thackeray Chowk and Post Naka Chowk. Rs 90 croreshas also been sanctioned for widening of the Kopri Bridge and work will be start soon by the MMRDA. The TMC is also planning to have one underground tunnel from Ghodbunder to Borivali.

Thane has been selected in the 98 list of the Smart City. Thane Municipal Corporation is the only civic body to have completed the Impact Assessment Study. The biggest IT campus is going to come up in Thane with an area of 3 million sq ft. The employment potential would be around 25,000 people. The plan has already been sanctioned.

All these infrastructure projects have given impetus to the real estate market all around Thane.Thane’s surreal growth has only been possible because of robust development of its infrastructure. Thane has emerged as lucrative hub for home buyers.
